49er’s Winter Games

The San Francisco 49ers, a greatly adored football team, has had an eventful season. On Nov. 2, the 49ers played against the New York Giants. In the first quarter, the team scored a touchdown, Christian McCaffery and Mac Jones mainly carrying everyone to the point. They scored another in the second quarter, and even got a field goal, Eddy Pineiro kicking the ball over 54 yards. In the third quarter, the 49ers got another field goal, pushing forward after the kickoff in which Jamie Gillian, from the opposing team, kicked the ball 33 yards away from the line of scrimmage. There was a bit of a struggle near the touchdown area, but Pineiro saved the day by kicking a 33 yard field goal. And lastly, in the fourth quarter, Brian Robinson Jr. and McCaffery scored two touchdowns.

While that boosted their team, they had lost against the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 9. In the first quarter, the Rams had scored two touchdowns, as the 49ers’ passes were incomplete and their defense was easy to slip by. In the second quarter, the Rams scored another touchdown, but McCaffery stopped the advancement of the ball and Jones passed the ball to Jauan Jennings, scoring a touchdown. In the third quarter, both teams each scored a touchdown and in the fourth quarter, the teams, again, scored two touchdowns each. However, the Rams ended the game beating the 49ers.

The 49ers recovered this loss, winning their next four games. Against the Arizona Cardinals, they scored six touchdowns. Pineiro even managed to get three field goals. When with the Carolina Panthers, Brock Purdy, Jennings, and McCaffery secured two touchdowns, Matt Gay scored two field goals, and the team even made a couple of interceptions, ending the game with a close score with the Panthers, but still winning. When against the Cleveland Browns, McCaffery, Purdy, and Jennings scored three touchdowns and Gay scored two field goals, making their way to victory. And, with the Tennessee Titans, Purdy, Jennings, McCaffery, and Kittle worked together to score four touchdowns and Pineiro managed to make three field goals, giving them enough points to win the game.

They continued to win their next two games against the Indianapolis Colts: Purdy passed to Demarcus Robinson, McCaffery, Kittle, and Jennings and scored five touchdowns, Pineiro scored two field goals, and the team made a couple interceptions, winning the game. And, when up against the Chicago Bears, McCaffery and Purdy got six touchdowns, once again winning the game.

Despite these many wins, they lost when put against the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 3. In the first quarter, the Seahawks scored a touchdown and the 49ers were unable to do the same. However,  in the second quarter, Seahawks player Jason Myers and Pineiro each scored a field goal. In the final quarter, the opposing team made a field goal and intercepted the ball, ending the game 25 yards away from the end zone and winning.

Luckily, on Jan. 11, the 49ers had won against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the first quarter, Purdy had passed to Robinson, scoring a touchdown, with the opposing team scoring one as well. The Eagles scored another in the second quarter, but the 49ers secured a field goal. The third quarter wasn’t so favorable for the 49ers, as they didn’t score any points and lost the ball while the Eagles scored a field goal. However, in the final quarter, the 49ers scored two touchdowns, McCaffery catching the ball that was thrown by Jennings and Purdy carrying the team to victory.

While that may have given fans some relief, on Jan. 17, the 49ers had lost against the Seattle Seahawks by a staggering 35 points. In the first quarter, Pineiro had kicked the ball 60 yards forward to the end zone area, but that resulted in a penalty. Myers then scored a field goal and Sam Darnold passed to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, securing a touchdown. In the second quarter, Pineiro managed to score two field goals, but the Seahawks scored another touchdown. In the third quarter, Myers scored a field goal and Kenneth Walker II got a touchdown while the 49ers lost the ball continuously. And, finally, in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks secured a final touchdown. The game ended with the Seahawks having 41 points and the 49ers having only six, making them unable to move forward in the playoffs.

This, unfortunately, concludes their season, full of many wins but many losses as well. Let’s hope that they will be able to make it to the Superbowl next season. Until then, tune into this year’s Superbowl and  watch the Seattle Seahawks go against the New England Patriots on Feb. 8.
