Small Business Saturday? More like Small Business Everyday!

Although Silicon Valley is home to the biggest and most exclusive brands in the world, what makes Bay Area culture so rich and unique is the plethora of small businesses. Many take for granted the mom and pop shops that are local to the area, and it's important, as members of this community, to be conscious consumers and help support these establishments!

Deemed non-essential to stay open by the government, the countless flower shops, bakeries, bookstores, and dry cleaners in the area are susceptible to permanent closing after quarantine due these extended weeks of no profits. These local shops shouldn’t have to give up their livelihood at the hands of the pandemic; these owners, many of which have sacrificed an arm and a leg to raise their businesses, deserve an opportunity to continue working from home just as much as the rest of the working world is. If anything, it is the massive corporations that we should withstand from buying from at this time; with many of them refusing to give paid leave during this time, or forcing their workers to put in mandatory overtime, these money makers are risking the health and livelihood of their employees just to expand their already colossal companies. With small businesses, however, having a sense of transparency between consumer and producer allows for a more confident buying experience, in that individuals are able to know where their money is going, and to whom it is receiving it.

Whether purchasing directly from their online shop or sharing a link to their website with friends, supporting local business doesn’t need to be difficult: all it needs are responsible customers who are passionate about their local community!
