As Notre Dame’s homecoming festivities came to a close in the fall and the excitement began to shift towards prom, ten enthusiastic sophomores were chosen to take the lead in planning for the most unforgettable night of the year for juniors and seniors. The committee hit the ground running during their first meeting in November, being introduced to the responsibilities and preparing for a commitment full of creativity, collaboration and decoration.

One of the earliest and most exciting tasks was selecting the theme. The real magic within the committee began when dozens of suggestions were given, some being elegant, whimsical or even bold. After narrowing down their favorites, the team held an internal vote to determine the top contenders. The final decision was in the hands of the juniors and seniors, where they ultimately selected the dreamiest and heartfelt theme, “At Last I See the Light,” inspired by Disney’s “Tangled”.

With the official theme set, the planning continued. The committee began envisioning how to bring this fairytale to life, exploring color palettes for the prom, leading to a student designing a logo based off of the theme. Since then, they have continued to have meetings once a month to brainstorm and bring their ideas to life.

One of the committee’s initial tasks was taking a tour of the prom venue. During the trip, they took note of the layout, possible activities and photo-op locations. Being able to see the venue in person gave them a clear sense of the space they were working with, allowing them to plan key moments such as the entrance or design decorations. Walking through the room allowed them to imagine where key elements like the dance floor and photo stations would go. Besides the physical look of the room, the group has begun curating a list of song choices to fit the highly anticipated 360 degree photo booth! Whether it's a song from “Tangled,” or a crowd favorite, the committee is working hard to make sure the music will reflect the energy of the night.

Decorations, lighting, and designs are all being thoughtfully considered with the collaboration of the entire group. Every detail becomes a team effort, and the dedication with everyone involved shines. With weeks still to come, there’s still plenty of work ahead. Thanks to the creative spark and commitment of this year’s committee, juniors and seniors can look forward to a magical evening that really does feel like a fairytale.
