Summer is approaching fast! As the sunshine becomes more prominent and school is out for summer break, there are many opportunities to take time with family and friends to see sports games up close and personal. The Bay Area is home to a variety of sports teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and San Jose Sharks. While these popular teams will be done with their respective seasons before summer, there are a few other teams with their doors open for fans this summer!

San Jose Earthquakes
Enjoy a great summer day at PayPal Park with the local Major League Soccer team, the San Jose Earthquakes! The Quakes began their season in March and will continue until October unless they make the playoffs, which will extend their season further. A popular match happened in mid-May, when Inter. Miami FC visited, which included world-famous player and World Cup champion Lionel Messi, who was warmly welcomed into our city of San Jose. The prideful team may have lost that game, but the community and environment is fun to be a part of. Going to a Quakes game is a great opportunity to get out with friends/family and see some action.

Bay FC
Not only do we have a professional men’s team at PayPal Park, we also have a National Women’s Soccer League team, Bay FC! The women’s team was founded by former USA women’s players Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osborne, Danielle Slaton, and Aly Wagner, and entered the league in 2024. Their 2025 season started in March and will continue into the summer, ending in early November. Watching Bay FC is a great way to spend a Saturday evening, with PayPal Park’s backdrop of sunsets and planes in the distance.

San Francisco Giants
In the famous city of San Francisco, about an hour from Notre Dame, Oracle Park is home to the popular Major League Baseball team, the San Francisco Giants! When they originally debuted in 1883, they were the New York Gothams. Now in San Francisco as the Giants, they have won eight World Series titles out of 20 appearances, and have won 17 National League pennants. The Giants started their spring training season in February and their official 2025 season in late March. They will end their official season in late September, and it is too soon to tell if they will continue into the World Series after.

Golden State Valkyries
A new women’s team has been welcomed into the Bay! The Women’s National Basketball League’s new team, the Golden State Valkyries, started their inaugural season on May 16th against the Los Angeles Sparks after their first two preseason close losses. They lost their first game on May 16th against the Los Angeles Sparks 67-84, but they played great. Their season will continue until early September. Their games are held at Chase Center, the same arena where the NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, play.

The summer holds time to go out to see some fun sporting events and try something new with friends and family. Whether you are seeing a game in San Francisco or at home in San Jose, each team holds something special that will give you memories to hold onto.
