How to Incorporate the Color Teal into your Daily Life
If you have been on social media for the last couple of months, it is almost impossible that you haven’t seen the color teal. It is vibrant, eye-catching, and if you pay just a little bit more attention, it’s everywhere. People wear teal on their nails, on their clothes, and they even paint their rooms teal. However, these trends aren’t actually so new; this is what we call a comeback.
When did pop culture first adopt this color? Contrary to the belief of many it didn’t just begin in the 2000s. In the 90s, it made a massive impact on sports, and more specifically, sports uniforms. As the NBA expanded, the team “The Hornets,” hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, adopted the iconic and eye-catching teal and purple uniforms. From the success of this, other sports, such as hockey, took a liking to the shade. We can see this right downtown, with the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center.
The craze continued on into the 2000s but slowly switched forms as new combinations were popularized such as brown and teal. This time period is where many people recognize the beginning of the color's popularity. During the Y2K boom, teal was seen on every surface and all over thousands of teenage girls’ wardrobes and rooms.
But why is it back now? Most of the resurgence and sudden craze for teal can be attributed to WGSN and COLORO naming it as the official color of the year. It represents ecological growth as we fight the effects of climate change, as well as a switch-up from the previous couple of years' adoption of neutral and bland colors.
Designers are now being drawn towards richer and bolder colors. Additionally, more people are beginning to catch on to this. Now, the media is flooded with teal nail inspo, declaring that it is the “color of the summer” on TikTok, as Brandy Melville is sinking their claws into the trend with tons of new pieces.
With all of this uproar, as a teal lover and part of the community, I've been thinking about how we can continue this lively and much-needed change into the colder months. Teal has always been regarded as a summery, mermaid-like color. It fits right in with the aesthetics of European summers in Greece and France, but sadly that chapter of this year has closed. Still, as we transition into autumn, things might change, but that does not mean abandoning the bold and vigor.
As the weather gets colder, teal is a great addition to your closet. Dark teal henleys are an adorable option for fashion expression. Layered with some cute lace and it's already an adorable fit. Accessories are also a very crucial part of styling yourself in all seasons. Tying back to my very clear favorite color, the return to Tiffany necklace is an amazing option, even with the price, dupes are always a great way around it. To throw out even more ideas, teal scarves(very autumn) and teal Beats headphones are both absolutely adorable.
Now, close your eyes and just visualize being all cozied up with your favorite teal cold weather accessories and clothes. If that isn’t teal heaven, what is?
