A Spoiler-Free Review of "The Mandalorian"

Recent Star Wars films haven’t always been received well, but there is one new show that all fans seem to get behind: "The Mandalorian". "The Mandalorian", recently released on Disney+, stands apart from this new era of Star Wars, transporting viewers back to the magic of the original trilogy. This new, yet nostalgic series tells an engaging story set in the Star Wars universe we all have grown to love. The pacing of the story-telling is excellent, as each episode is self-contained yet relating to a greater story arc. There are callbacks and references to the original trilogy that supplement this independent story without overwhelming it; it’s the perfect balance of something old and something new.  "The Mandalorian", called ‘Mando’, is a nameless, faceless character, but do not let this anonymity deter you. The writers carefully reveal bits of ‘Mando’’s identity in a satisfying fashion over the course of the first season. His interactions with other characters, as well as flashbacks provide context and humanity for his character. By the end of season 1, viewers will have a deep understanding of ‘Mando’, even with his helmet. With a massive budget of 15 million dollars per episode, the costumes and sets are visually engaging and extremely well-done. The quality and artistry of the series allows you to appreciate and become invested in the story even further. Not only is the plot line well crafted, but the physical components are exceptional as well.Possibly the most endearing aspect of this show is the paternal relationship that develops between ‘Mando’ and another prominent character in the show. This relationship is skillfully created and is refreshing in a time where many on screen relationships are romantic. Although it is not what you may typically see in shows or films, it is equally, if not more, entertaining and emotionally engaging. “The Mandalorian” has become an overnight sensation. If you are a life-long Star Wars fan, or someone just looking for something to watch,"The Mandalorian" is a great show to watch. Check out the first season, all available now on Disney+.
