From Songs to SNL: Harry Styles

From performing as a member in a British boy band, One Direction, to acting as a character in the movie Dunkirk (2017), by Christopher Nolan, it is no surprise that Harry Styles, a man of many talents, was featured as both the host and singer of Saturday Night’s Live. It is not all that common that a star is invited to both hosts and perform on the iconic comedy show. However, it is even less common for stars to be able to prove their worth in front of the camera and in the writing room, as well as being able to perform their own music live.  Harry Styles was one of the few, and the clips from November 16th’s episode proved that he is one of the most iconic SNL hosts of all time. Throughout the countless skits, Harry was in, he certainly surprised audiences with his skilled acting abilities and realistic Icelandic and American accents. A crowd favorite was his skit with SNL actor Aidy Bryant. In this skit, Joan (performed by Bryant) and Chihuahua Doug's love is so powerful that it transforms the dog into a human man, played by host Harry Styles. He and Joan then share a romantic duet in a giant hall lit up with candles and fog, like a Celine Dion music video. Styles’ transformation into human showcased his talented singing abilities as he belted out powerful notes as he sang an emotional ballad to his owner, Joan, in the skit.  In addition to his hilarious skits, Styles’ took this SNL performance to the next level to debut his new single Watermelon Sugar and Lights Up. His acoustic version of lights up added an emotional element that made this tuneful song more compelling. Harry’s impressive SNL episode is just one of the few appearances he will make as he begins his new tour for his new album.  With tickets already released for Love on Tour 2020, Harry Styles is expected to make a memorable impression among all ages of his audience as he begins his new era as an artist.
