Sonic the Hedgehog is a famous game franchise that grew into popularity after a plethora of memes went viral. However, most people do not understand the contents of this game franchise and what the story is about. This is a guide to help players and beginners understand a lot about Sonic. The Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay is divided into several categories. There is the classic style, which is the 2D original momentum placed gameplay. This style includes games such as: Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic CD, and Sonic Mania. For 3D, this style branches out to an adventure, which is hosted in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. This involves more 3D open-world movement. Finally, there is another 3D style that is the boost formula, where the player can boost to speed up and try to not get hit. Games with this include Sonic Colors and Generations. Sonic the Hedgehog also has two main comic series. The first is the canceled Archie comic series, which features over 250+ issues, and is the longest-running American comic series. It was canceled when a writer got fired and proceeded to sue Sega, after believing a new Sonic game was ripping off his Echidna original characters. After the writer won the legal battle, his entire work got retconned from the comic, eventually canceling the comic. However, the new comic line is Sonic IDW, which is given its name from being published by the company IDW Comics. It is recommended for people who are beginners to read so that they understand the characters while being enjoyable for returning fans. The current arc is the Metal Virus arc, where a zombie virus exists that if a character gets touched by a Zombot (the name for infected people) they become a zombie robot. With the death of many beloved characters, this line can get extremely intense. Sonic is the hero of the story, and nothing is known of his past, but he is the fastest thing alive. Sonic is an egotistical, joking, adventurous character, but has a heart of gold that causes him to fight for what's right. Sonic can forgive people easily in IDW, which caused the metal virus in the current arc to exist. Tails is Sonic’s adopted brother and is a child prodigy with an IQ of 300. Tails is smart and skeptical occasionally. However, since Tails is 8 years old, Tails can be scared or naive as well. Using his two tails, he can fly and move fast thanks to his tails. Both Sonic and Tails are friends with Knuckles. Knuckles is the last echidna, an ancient race who all died due to chaos. He watches over the master emerald on Angel Island and is a stubborn fighter, who is also gullible. Despite first impressions, Knuckles does have a kind heart. Knuckles is incredibly strong, with the ability to climb, dig, and glide. Amy has several different interactions throughout, the games; Amy is a stubborn, determined girl who has a crush on Sonic, despite Sonic having no attraction to her. While in IDW, Amy’s having a crush on Sonic is given a backseat to be a leader and more independent, in charge of the resistance. Amy uses her gigantic hammer to attack enemies. Shadow is the immortal ultimate lifeform, who is seen as an edgelord by many people. The truth is, Shadow is edgy because his only friend died to save him, as he proceeded to get captured, getting cryogenically frozen for 50 years. Shadow is awakened and was confused about who he was, and the mind was warped by his creator to seek vengeance. Shadow is very quiet and prefers solitude, but will protect the earth no matter what. Shadow can use chaos powers to his will, allowing him to make spears and teleport while being almost as fast as Sonic. Silver is a time traveler from 200 years in the future, as his future is completely destroyed. Silver has telekinesis. Silver is very optimistic and gullible but has a huge love for the earth and nature. Blaze is a princess from an alternate dimension, who is often serious and quiet, with having a bit of a temper. She controls fire at her will. However, Blaze is a nice person who is a hardworking and passionate friend. Eggman is the main antagonist of the Sonic franchise. He wants to rule the world by enslaving all the animals by turning them into robots. He is a 300 IQ genius, but his biggest downfall is his massive ego, causing him to overlook major flaws in his plan. He has created Metal Sonic, who is the robotic version of Sonic, created to be exactly like Sonic. Metal Sonic can not speak and is loyal to Eggman. He can be a huge threat to Sonic but is usually able to be defeated. Normally people will have a long time to get Sonic content, but thanks to a passionate community, everyone has a ton of material to experience! There are loads of webcomics, some made by people who went on to work on the official Sonic comics. Every year, the sonic community has a hacking contest for Sonic fan games, allowing people to play many new Sonic games. While there are extensive mods for every Sonic game, giving everyone a ton of content. With many more ROM hacks and fan games already existing, allowing a ton of content for everyone to play. To play, a person will need a pc and Zzip, allowing them to extract files to play it. There are mod managers and guides to help them download mods, with sites like GameBanana being a showcase for the mods. Now everyone should understand a lot about Sonic. No matter what taste a person has, there's a piece of Sonic media to fit that.
