Political Corruption in America

In 2016 the U.S. public was introduced to a new reality show based in the White House starring the commander in chief of the United States Donald J. Trump. As we are nearing the 4 year mark of this amazing show we must look back at all that has happened to keep the American public on the edge of their seat. Over the years we have been subject to Trump’s numerous crazy antics and scandals ranging from sexual assault allegations, Russian collusion in the 2016 election, racial housing discrimination , beauty pageant scandals, mafia ties, and more. Although many wish that what is happening in capitol hill is fake, it is our harsh reality. Currently we are living with a United States President that has been embroiled in various illicit activities that are all tied to political corruption, is he really the only politician who has acted against the law?The answer is No. Many scandals and illicit activities that have been done by various politicians, but none of them were able to get their own reality show like our current commander in chief. Ever since America’s founding various politicians have partaken in illicit activities just to get ahead in the political scene or to gain more money. According to a study done by Princeton University the U.S. public will see only a 30% likelihood that a bill majority supports passing. The article even goes as far as to say  that “The preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”But the rich elitist in the private sector and how many of the bills they support actually pass it is over 80%. The reason for this major disparity is because rich private companies such as banks, tech companies, pharmaceutical companies and more are able to hire lobbyists to pay government officials millions of dollars for the re-election campaign. Lobbyists are individuals that are played by arich institution or company to bribe government officials into passing a law that this rich company or institution wants. The process used by rich companies  is completely legal and helps fester political corruption. In the past 5 years alone over 5.8 billion dollars was spent by 200 companies to help pass bills that would support their interests. Though the problem of political corruption has blown up recently from the United State’s current commander in chief, the means for corruption has gone for many many years. The only thing that is known for certain is that corruption is completely legal in America and until we are able to change that, the public will have zero say in public policies. Now all the American public can do is sit back and watch the incredible reality TV show, at the White House.
