How Are the Freshman Leopards Reacting to WPP?

Notre Dame has had the Woman's Place Project for over 30 years and it has brought new faces to light, both freshmen and previously unknown hardworking women, and lots of unique table settings. The event was inspired by an art piece named The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago, which was to once again show the women lost in history and reteach what they had done and what they had added to the world that we are in now. According to Notre Dame’s official website, “Project (WPP) develops research and public speaking skills to celebrate a woman of impact.” As a result of all the research and writing, the students participating in the event tend to get nervous but simultaneously excited regarding their table setting, the people they would have to talk to, or about the WPP night overall.
Katie Schuette 29’ stated that, about the concept of the Woman’s Place Project, “I think it is interesting to learn more about women who don’t get as recognized as others.” and, when asked about what she was looking forward to, “I am looking forward to actually making the plate settings.”
Shriya Prasad 29’ said that “I am happy about [the Woman’s Place Project] because it is a fun way to honor the impacts that women have made.” and, for the plates, “I am looking forward to decorating the plates because it seems like a fun activity.”
Liezl Ah Kun 29’ had said that “I think WPP is a positive project because it teaches everyone about women who influenced the world and are unheard of. I do wish I had a person who was still alive so that I could send her a letter asking things and personalize my arrangement more accurately to how she would.” But, regarding the plate that each freshman would need to design, “I am nervous of getting a bad grade on my plate arrangement. I also feel like there are a lot of required objects for the place setting which will make it crowded.”
There are probably many more emotions or concerns that are going around the heads of all the freshmen, so we wish them luck and hope that they have a great time in the event like we, the previous classes, had. Make sure to drink lots of water before though, as it will be a long night filled with lots of talking, explaining, and singing.
