Students’ Plans from December Break

With the first half of the school year done and over with, Notre Dame students were more than ready for their well-deserved Winter break. After a long five-month semester, many students have travelled, spent time with friends, or simply relaxed over the two-and-a-half-week timeframe — a stark yet necessary shift from the constant movement here at ND. No matter what your plans have been over winter break, any type of relaxation is time well spent, regardless of what form that may take.

When asked about her plans for the upcoming break, Prisha Gupta ‘29 mentioned, “I’m going to spend a lot of time with my family and rest before the next semester starts.” Evidently making the most of her time, it’s important to remember to slow down and take breaks here and there. The time off is a reminder that it’s necessary to preserve your own mental peace, especially as the year 2025 has come to a close. With the large amount of responsibilities that can build up quickly, particularly during the second semester, peace of mind may be hard to come by. This makes it especially important to dedicate time to yourself when given the chance.

Regarding travel plans over winter break, Kayla Hann ‘28 also contributed her itinerary. “I’m going to Korea — I’m really looking forward to it because there’s so much good food there, and I’m going to spend a lot on skincare while I’m there.” While relaxation is important, sometimes what works best for you is a new environment. On a similar note, Cindy Shen ‘26 said, “I’m going to Hawaii with my childhood friend of 15 years. I’m excited to eat shaved ice and poke bowls!” Changing up your surroundings every once in a while can have great benefits for a positive outlook — plus, it’s simply fun to go somewhere and try something new with friends!

On a more academic note, Rebecca Kunze ‘26 noted, “I will be submitting the last of my college applications; I can’t wait to be done and have more time on my hands!” As we have left this year behind, it’s relieving to look back on all that we have accomplished. While the New Year is mainly seen as a holiday to better ourselves, it should also be a reminder to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication we’ve already contributed — while also knowing how we can improve from there.
