New Courses Offered at ND
The start of a new school year is always an exciting time, made even more interesting this year with the addition of two new classes to the curriculum: Anatomy and Physiology, and Creative Writing. Both courses provide Notre Dame students with much anticipated opportunities to explore different skills and interests.
The Anatomy and Physiology class allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the human body's inner workings. Through hands-on labs and the study of anatomical models, the course delves into the internal structures and functions that sustain human life. Unlike the biology class, which covers a broad overview of all living organisms, Anatomy and Physiology specifically focuses on human physiology. This course is particularly beneficial for students interested in a future in healthcare or sports medicine. Open to grades ten through twelve, it has already generated excitement among students eager to engage with its content.
When asked about her thoughts on the new course, Nyla Belshe ‘25 said, “I’m planning on majoring in kinesiology and entering the field of sports medicine, so I felt that the class would be helpful and provide a good foundation of knowledge.” She also expressed interest in taking the class because she “knew that it was going to be a new and fun experience.” This enthusiasm is echoed by many students enrolled in the class. Whether you’re looking to build a foundation for future aspirations or just seeking an engaging new experience, Anatomy and Physiology offers something for everyone.
The second new addition, Creative Writing, provides students with a unique outlet to refine their writing skills. According to the course description, “Students will develop their knowledge of the craft of writing by analyzing the characteristics of genres/sub-genres that are used in poetry, prose, novels, short stories, and essays in order to produce their own writing.” Creative Writing stands out because it offers a break from the analytical writing typical of most English classes, granting students more creative freedom. Currently, the course is only available to seniors, offering them a special opportunity for creative exploration during their final year at Notre Dame.
The addition of these courses to Notre Dame’s 2024 curriculum signals an exciting trend, as the school continues to expand its offerings to cater to the diverse interests of ND students and enrich the academic experience.
