Sonic 2 Review

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is the anticipated sequel to “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which was a surprise success, especially from the controversy surrounding Sonic’s redesign. The success has allowed a sequel to be produced, including fan-favorite characters like Knuckles the Echidna and Miles Tails Prower.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” takes place a while after the events of the first movie. In this sequel, Robotnik has returned from the Mushroom Planet and has a new ally by the name of Knuckles. Sonic has to stop them from finding the master emerald, accompanied by Tails. The movie focuses a lot less on the human characters, as most of them have gone to weddings, and instead focuses on Sonic and Knuckles. This is a good change, as the best scenes in the movie feature Sonic and his friends versus Robotnik.

All the actors are great and enjoyable to watch. Jim Carrey goes full insanity with his performance of Robotnik and it is an absolute joy to watch. Idris Elba does a fantastic job with his character of Knuckles, and Ben Schwartz does a great job with Sonic. Lee Majdoub is a surprisingly great addition, playing Dr. Stone who has become a fan favorite.

However, the movie does have some issues. The pacing needs some more work. The movie features a dance scene and another scene with the wedding that goes on for way too long. The dance scene is more forgivable as it establishes chemistry between Sonic and Tails, however, the wedding scene overstays its welcome. Another issue can be humor, as it is subjective. Personally, I laughed at a few jokes, but some jokes fell flat.

These issues do not detract from how fun and exciting the movie gets. I was fully invested in the entire runtime and was loving it. Even so, I am a Sonic fan, and the movie is filled with references that made me ecstatic. The movie is better the more you are a Sonic fan, and people who are unfamiliar with Sonic can still enjoy the movie.

Overall, the movie was a fun, entertaining experience that I would recommend. If you are a Sonic fan, it is a must-see, but you should definitely give it a watch even if you are not one. While the movie does have flaws, it is still worth watching.
