Severe Gender Discrimination in Florida

To add to the list of issues in Florida, there is a large number of Florida residents that discriminate against people who identify as anything but straight. It is very common to see posts of people disregarding other human beings’ feelings. The Internet is a very negative place, where people love to post their own opinions about others' lives. For example, people in Florida make it a common occurrence to shut down people who like the same gender as them, or who have made their own journey through becoming a transgender man, woman, or person.

While this is illegal, people still discriminate against each other based on labels, which is being overlooked by the state leaders. The Florida Humans Right Act, which was approved in 1992, clearly states that it is illegal to discriminate against individuals because of their race, color, sex, pregnancy, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, or marital status. Is this fair? Absolutely not. Now since there is no action by the government to work on this issue in Florida, the people have decided to take it into their own hands.

Nadine Smith dedicates her time to a program dedicated to stopping this matter. Equality Florida stands with students and parents on fixing gender inequality. Its goal is to protect and help with inclusion, while also countering bullying, social isolation, LGBTQ+ protection, harassment, and more. The program wants to protect Florida and its reputation, to make the state a more welcoming place for everyone.

The significance of gender discrimination goes deeper than just Florida. It is shown and normalized all around the world, including in the United States. Protesting and protecting gender equality everywhere can bring people together instead of having us all drift apart. Taking part in or donating to the people who will use the money to try and have the government fight this will continue to be one of the most helpful ways we can make a change.
