Is Taylor becoming overrated?

The question about whether or not Miss Americana, Taylor Swift becoming overrated is most likely one a lot of fans won’t admit they are asking themselves. She has put out amazing and relatable albums throughout each phase of her life, drawing her fanbase in as they felt they were growing with her. Due to this, she has created a loyal, die-hard group of people who listen to her music and obsess over her every move on a global scale. From shaking city grounds because of concert noise to being the “lucky charm” for football games, she has been receiving a lot of attention and credit for being an artist with a few consecutive albums with good songs.

With the re-release of her old albums with added songs from the vault, as well as the release of Midnights, Taylor’s music has not been giving that general wow factor or growth connection that a lot of her previous albums have given before. Nowadays, it is as if wherever you go, such as the mall, a restaurant, a department store, or simply by turning on the radio the chances of you hearing one of her overplayed songs will blast the speakers.

Though her fame is well deserved, she is a good artist with a lot of creative vision and her concerts are always a magical experience for any Swifty. She takes care of her fans, does a lot of philanthropic work, as well as keeping it real with any and all interviews she is in. There could be reason and speculation that our dear queen Taylor is in fact becoming overrated, but it is also necessary for us as fans to give credit where credit is due. She is a strong woman who speaks out about hard topics no one would speak about. It could also be argued that she is participating in selective activism, but if the issues she is advocating for are things that are important to her, she should not be blamed or held responsible for “selective activism”. A lot of reasoning why she might be considered overrated could also come from people being unable to separate the art from the artist. No one is going to be able to completely please every single individual, but it is imperative that we step back and observe that people who are in such large spotlights are living their life to the fullest and best of their capabilities just like the rest of us.

As a society, it is time for us to look back and examine how our analyses on a person's career and placing labels like “overrated” could affect the person in question. Whether you like her music or don’t like her music, just live your life with an open mind and kind energy toward other people, and artists in the world.
