San Pedro Square Market Highlight

One of San Jose’s hidden gems is a downtown favorite destination: San Pedro Square Market. With two buildings and an outdoor eating area, there is a little something for everyone in this market. Located on San Pedro St, this building contains 22 vendors selling an array of cuisines. Craving a sweet treat? Check out Crepe Fiu Fiu or Mochinut! Check out Crepe Fiu Fiu or Mochinut! Are you hankering for some authentic Mexican food? Alma Tequileria or Loteria Taco Bar are your go-to spots! And if you're feeling adventurous, explore the flavors of Peru and Korea, or even indulge in some fresh seafood. The options are endless!

San Pedro Square Market is not just a food haven but also a vibrant hub of culture and live music. With performances every day of the week, both indoors and outdoors, the market is always buzzing with the sound of music. Each day brings a new artist, providing a platform for small bands to showcase their talent. Whether it's a mellow weekday evening or a lively weekend afternoon, the market is filled with the joys of music, creating an electric atmosphere that's hard to resist.

San Pedro Square Market is not just a place for food and drinks but also a living testament to history. Have you ever wondered about the unique building in the outdoor seating area? With its intriguing architecture, this building holds a significant place in San Pedro's history, adding a touch of mystery to your visit. The Peralta Adobe, built in 1797 by José Manuel Gonzeles, a member of the  Apache tribe and the second mayor of San Jose, is the last remaining structure from El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe, the 1777 formal establishment of San Jose as a civil community in California.

Being so close to Notre Dame, many students have visited and loved San Pedro Square Market. Ladia Giberson from the class of 2026 even recommends trying Urban Momo’s Chicken Tikka Masala, and her friend Nina Wiens recommends trying out the delicious Neapolitan pizza at Pizza Bocca Lupa. Both sophomores mentioned that what they love most besides the food is how open the market is with their live music and kind community.

Growing up in Downtown San Jose, students have spent years at San Pedro Square. They have seen some vendors open and close, and how the market has expanded for about a decade. It is a friendly place filled with adventurous people and delicious food. Perhaps you’ll catch me getting a burger at Hella Good Burger or an ice cream at the Gelato Shop on your next visit!
