Movies Coming Out This Summer

The movies released last year were utterly amazing. With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the Barbenheimer event, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, people wonder whether this summer’s selection will be just as exciting. 

Month of May

The Fall Guy, an action comedy starring Ryan Gosling as struggling movie stuntman Colt Seavers will be coming to theaters on May 3, 2024. The movie follows him as he tries to solve a mystery regarding a missing actor to save his ex-wife’s film. On May 10, 2024, a biopic on British-American music artist Amy Winehouse Back to Black will be released. IF, directed by John Krasinski and coming out on May 17, is about a young girl who discovers she can see people’s imaginary friends and embarks on a journey to reconnect the forgotten imaginary friends with their kids. Lastly, The Garfield Movie, an adventure comedy about the lasagna-loving sarcastic cat reuniting with his father and joining him on a high-stakes heist, will release on May 24, 2024.

Month of June

On June 7, Hit Man, a comedy thriller about a professional killer who secretly works for the police breaking protocol to help a desperate woman who hires him so she can get away from her abusive husband, will come out. On June 14, 2024, Pixar will release Inside Out 2. Continuing where Inside Out (2015) left off, this movie will follow the main five emotions, anger, disgust, fear, joy, and sadness, when Riley begins to encounter new emotions, anxiety, ennui (boredom), embarrassment, and envy, that threaten to take over. On June 28 2024, horror sci-fi fans will hear how it all began with A Quiet Place: Day One

Month of July

On July 3 2024, comedy films Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and  Despicable Me 4 will come out. On July 12, 2024, horror thriller Longlegs, follows an FBI agent as she goes to solve an unsolved serial killer case involving the occult and a personal connection.

Month of August

200% Wolf, a movie about a poodle who is struggling to maintain the respect of his werewolf pack and ends up being turned into a werewolf by a mischievous fairy, is coming out on August 1. A live-action adaptation of a children’s book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, is coming to theaters on August 2. On August 9, Borderlands, an action sci-fi about an infamous outlaw who returns to her homeland and bands together with a group of unexpected allies to battle aliens and bandits to find a missing girl, will release. On August 16, Alien Romulus, a horror sci-fi about young space colonizers encountering a dangerous form of extraterrestrial life. Lastly, on August 23, two movies are coming out: Blink Twice and The Crow. Blink Twice is a thriller about a young waitress who catches the eye of a tech billionaire at a fundraising gala. He invites her to join him and his friends on a vacation to his private island. At first, It seems like a dream, but then strange things start to occur, and the waitress will have to uncover the truth if she wants to survive. The Crow is a reboot of an action fantasy film from 1994, following a murdered musician who rises from the grave to avenge himself and his also dead fiancé.

While this year’s releases may not be as hyped up as last year’s, fans of many franchises, genres, and actors will be very excited to go to the theaters. As summer approaches, so does the long-awaited return of beloved characters and the arrival of new ones. Whether your interest lies in love, comedy, or horror, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
