As the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close, students are already shifting their focus towards the new school year. At Notre Dame, classes are picked for the following year in the second semester of the previous school year. Many have already solidified their course selections, while others remain on the fence or unsure. The course catalog appears mostly familiar to students, with the exception of a few new courses offered for the 2024-2025 school year. Expanding the catalog allows students to expand their own experiences and perspectives at Notre Dame.

The first new class offered is Creative Writing. As a semester-long senior class, the class focuses on expanding writing skills and learning new ways of written expression. The course combined analysis of poetry, novels, short stories, and prose with writing assignments, providing the ability to polish skills using the knowledge gained from observing other written works. Taken from the course catalog description, “Activities are geared to help writers develop a habit of writing, brainstorming ideas for writing, developing vivid and concrete descriptions, exploring character and plot development, and experimenting with forms of fiction, memoir, and poetry.”

Another new class is the science course of Anatomy and Physiology. Available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the course revolves around the expansion of knowledge of the human body. Topics such as muscles and bones, motion, the neuroendocrine system, the cardiorespiratory system, and the immune system, among many others, will be examined. As with most science courses, there are a variety of activities paired with the curriculum. Laboratory experiments, dissections, case studies, and research will all be conducted in conjunction with the course knowledge.

With the addition of new courses, students have new and exciting experiences to look forward to. The opportunities given through new classes can add so much to the learning community at Notre Dame. These two courses, both with so much to offer, are sure to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for those who choose to take them.

Hi, I'm Chloé Guerrand and this is my first year in Journalism! I like to write op-eds and social justice articles. Writing has been one of my favorite things to do my whole life and I'm so glad to be able to share it through journalism. Other than that, I like to listen to music, go on walks, watch movies, and read. I like animals and insects a lot, some of my favorite animals are red pandas and barn owls. I love exploring nature and traveling to new places.
