Fun Reads for the Fall

As we approach Halloween at the end of the month and celebrate the new fall season, it’s a good time to start creating a fun and captivating reading list for the fall. These ten books are great options to add to your reading list and to pick up and enjoy amid the wonderful fall weather!

1. “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides

This critically acclaimed psychological thriller follows the protagonist, Alicia Berenson, who at first seems to be living a perfectly normal life until she kills her husband and refuses to say a single word. Throughout the novel, the reader discovers the truth of Alicia’s husband’s murder and her supposed motive.

2. “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier

An early 1900s classic, Rebecca tells the story of an unnamed narrator who suddenly marries Maxim de Winter, a mysterious widow who had recently lost his dead wife, Rebecca. Throughout this story, the unnamed narrator seeks out to discover what truly happened to Rebecca and why her lingering presence strongly remains within her home and marriage.

3. “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt

The Secret History is a novel narrated by Richard Papen, one of six students who attended an elite college in New England. In this novel, he looks back at the the order of events that led to his friend’s murder. This suspenseful mystery is a great read if you're looking for something to keep you on your toes.

4. “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

This gothic horror novel tells the story of Noemi, who one day receives a letter from her cousin that claims her husband wants to murder her. Concerned and curious, Noemi ventures out to a small town where her cousin lives to find out the truth. This novel is a great horror story with a captivating plot to keep you hooked! 

5. “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen

A classic “enemies to lovers” tale, “Pride and Prejudice” follows the story of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bennet who, at first, dislikes the wealthy and prideful Mr. Darcy. However, throughout the story, the two must face each other’s faults of pride and prejudice to further their relationship romantically.

6. “The Widows of Malabar Hill” by Sujata Massey

Set in India during the 1920s, Perveen Mistry becomes one of the first female lawyers in the country when joining her father’s law firm. Perveen is appointed to carry out the will of a wealthy mill owner, Mr. Omar Farid, who died and left his money to his three wives. However, the three decide to donate their inheritance to charity, raising Perveen’s suspicions about the widow’s intentions and if it truly was their decision. An enthralling story, this mystery novel follows Perveen trying to uncover the mystery of Malabar Hill while facing challenges from her personal life, as well.
