History in the Making: Super Bowl LVI

Every year, fans across the country come together to celebrate the Super Bowl. As one of the most anticipated events in the country, the Super Bowl not only brings together fans and players because of the thrilling competition, but also for the reputed artists performing in the halftime show. This upcoming Super Bowl in 2022 features one of the most star-studded halftime shows yet, with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar headlining.

Home to the first Super Bowl in 1967, Los Angeles returns to host Super Bowl LVI, so it is only understandable that some of the biggest names in the music industry are performing at such a historic city to commemorate football. Altogether, these monumental artists have an impressive forty-three Grammys, making for a highly anticipated halftime performance. For Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar, 2022’s Super Bowl is personally significant to them as they are performing in the city that they grew up in. In fact, Dr. Dre calls it “one of the biggest thrills of my career” and “an unforgettable cultural moment.” Representing the history of hip-hop culture on one of the biggest stages in the country, these legendary artists will truly be representing a truly memorable moment in history.

Every year, the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show tries to push the limits of what is possible in the music industry, in a mere twelve minute performance. Despite this short allotment of time, each year, the Super Bowl halftime show continues to defy the expectations of what is possible, from Katy Perry’s larger-than-life theatrics to Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and Beyonce’s soulful yet groovy production. For Super Bowl LVI, Pepsi, the NFL, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation do just that, bringing together artists that have defined hip hop culture and the meaning of music as a whole. Inspirations to artists across the world, the headliners for the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show provide the opportunity for an enthralling twelve-minute act.

Fans are incredibly excited for the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show, enticing many to even watch the game for the first time. From the timeless Mary J. Blige and lyrical genius, Eminem, to Kendrick Lamar, a young musical pioneer, the upcoming halftime show introduces new fans of all generations to the rich culture of rap and R&B music and the entertainment of football at the same time. As founder of Roc Nation, an entertainment company partnered with the NFL, and a legend in the rap and music industry himself, Jay-Z puts it best: “This is the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. This is history in the making.”
