Supporting Asian Businesses
Since the beginning of 2021, hate crimes against Asian Americans have spiked. It is our job as a community to protect them and one another. Not only is it important to protect Asians from crimes, but also to help by supporting their local businesses. In towns anywhere in the US, there are probably local Asian businesses that are being run there. As we can all imagine, starting and maintaining a business is pretty hard, but imagine if you were also facing racism while doing so. Although the world is already a dangerous place, it is even more dangerous now for Asian elders and other Asian citizens. We cannot always shield them from harm, but we can certainly support their businesses and be kind to them. In San Jose, there are many Asian-run businesses, from restaurants to clothing shops, to jewelry stores to repair shops. It is important in our world right now to understand the struggles that Asian Americans are facing because of the political issues and rumors that have been falsely spread. Take some time today and maybe research or reach out to Asian businesses and see how you can support them. Although it is hard to prevent all hate crimes against Asian Americans, we can surely lower the count if we work together, united as a community.
