Inquires on Impeachment

In the history of our United States, President Trump is the third to be indicted at the center of an impeachment hearing, following President Nixon and President Clinton. However, as the United States is “hitting round three” of these impeachment proceedings, President Trump’s trial seems to be very different than the previous two. Trump’s charges are centered around his relations with Ukraine and the role he played on trying to find dirt on his political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. The whistleblower wrote a report where they overheard a phone call between President Trump and the President of Ukraine, which was then confirmed. Upon this report coming out, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she was directing committees to investigate under this impeachment inquiry. This is where the first major difference between the impeachment proceedings of Clinton and Nixon differs from Trump’s. Nixon and Clinton’s cases were based on investigations that had already taken place, and proven the two guilty. However, in Trump’s case, the investigation is still open; with President Trump’s history, it is fair to assume that he will use this to his advantage. By calling witnesses “liars and cheaters” and claiming that “corrupt Dems” are leading the inquires, he is rallying his supporters into believing that he is being unfairly tried. Because there have not been months of hearings and trials to back up the impeachment proceedings, there is a lot of uncertainty. In the previous two impeachments, there was also a special prosecutor, while the Trump impeachment began with the Intelligence Committee. Though there is no constitutional process that impeachment hearings? need to follow, this one will definitely make history, as it is like nothing that any president has ever done. For those that want to follow these impeachment proceedings and stay up-to-date, the schedule of speakers below can act as a guide. Tuesday morning: Lt. Col Alexander Vindman and Jennifer Williams; both of these were listening to the July call that started these allegations. They are being questioned to figure out possible motivations and testify against President Trump. Tuesday afternoon: Kurt Volker and Tim Morrison; These two are specialists in relations between Ukraine, Russia, and Europe. Volker and Morrison are confirming key instances in the July phone call (when Trump claimed to be speaking to the President of Ukraine, colluding by trying to find dirt on Joe Biden’s son). Wednesday morning: Gordon Sondland; Sondland is this week’s most anticipated witness. His role as the US ambassador to the European Union puts him at the center of the allegations and what role he played in military aid and finding dirt on Joe Biden’s son.Wednesday afternoon: Laura Cooper and David Hale; these two professionals are speaking on military aid and political affairs and their knowledge of the removal of Marie Yovanovitch, the former US ambassador to Ukraine.Thursday: Fiona Hill; this week’s investigation ends with Trump’s former Russia adviser and her closed-door testimony. While this will not be televised, stay tuned for the results of this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence in American History.
