Fall Dessert Recipes

I don’t know about you, but for me, the sooner fall approaches, the more my desire to stay in all day and bake grows. I love summer, but the thought of having my entire house become warm and filled with the smell of sweet fall desserts makes me even more excited. Here are a few treats that you can bake this fall to make the season even sweeter.Apple CobblerThis recipe is for you if you like a gooey, sweet but not too sweet, cinnamon apple, desserts. A few of my friends and I got together a few weekends ago to make this and decided to add scoops of vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream to balance the warmth of the cobbler. Let’s just say we all had our fair share of seconds and thirds. I also added a few fresh out of the oven pictures of this cobbler from when my friends and I made it.Ingredients: 4-6 apples of choice1 ½ cup of brown sugar1 cup of flour2 tablespoons of lemon juice½ teaspoon of nutmeg¾ cup of sugar2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon2 teaspoons of baking powder½ cup of milk1 teaspoon of vanilla1 stick (½ cup) of melted butterPinch of saltDirections:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375º
  2. Peel and cut the apples into cubes
  3. In a large bowl, combine apples, ¼ cup of flour, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and set aside
  4. In another medium-sized bowl, mix together ¾ cup of flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt.
  5. Add the melted butter into the mixture with the apples and make sure everything is well incorporated
  6. In a baking dish, spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom and pour the flour mixture over the layer of apples. Do not combine the two mixtures together.
  7. Optional: sprinkle more cinnamon lightly over the flour mixture
  8. Bake for 45 minutes and enjoy.

Mexican Hot ChocolateThis hot chocolate has always been an essential part of mine and my family’s fall and winter. It is the perfect drink to curl up with on a cold or rainy day while reading a good book. Mexican hot chocolate is not like regular hot cocoa, it uses chocolate tablets known to most as the name “Abuelita” which is the name of the brand of the chocolate, giving it a sweet and rich flavor with a slight kick. Ingredients:1 tablet of the Abuelita hot chocolate1 cup of milk½ tablespoon of cocoa powder1 cinnamon stick broken into two pieces1 teaspoon ground cinnamon½ teaspoon of cayenne pepperPinch of saltDirections:

  1. In a large pot, on medium-high heat, add one tablet of the chocolate into the milk
  2. As the chocolate melts, add in the cinnamon stick, cocoa powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Continue heating the drink for another 5-10 minutes, until the tablet is completely melted and milk is frothy.
  4. Serve with whipped cream and enjoy.

Cinnamon ChipsThese cinnamon chips take inspiration from churros. There are sweet and crispy and you will not be able to get enough of them. They are also very easy to make and can be prepared in less than thirty minutes. If you want an extra kick of sweetness, you can dip these in chocolate or caramel sauce.Ingredients: 5 flour tortillas4 tablespoons of butter (melted)½ cup of sugar 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamonDirections:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400º F
  2. Cut each tortilla into 8 triangle-shaped pieces
  3. Toss the tortilla pieces in the melted butter, making sure they are well coated
  4. In a separate bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar and toss the tortillas in this mixture.
  5. Place the coated pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  6. Bake until the chips are crispy, approximately 10-12 minutes.
  7. Leave them out to sit until they're cool and enjoy.

If you’re in the mood for a festive dessert and have some extra time, make sure to try out some of these delicious treats!
