2025 Grammys: Nominations and Predictions
Every spring, the biggest artists of the year are recognized by the Recording Academy who determines the winners of one of the most prestigious music awards: a Grammy.
This year, the Grammy nominations were announced on Nov. 10, in preparation for the award show which will take place on Feb. 4, 2025. These nominations include categories such as Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and many more.
Last year, the award winner of Best New Artist for the 2024 Grammys was Victoria Monét. This year, eight of the latest artists are up for nomination for the award: Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Benson Boone, Khruangbin, Raye, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims and Doechii. While all of these artists are talented, only one will leave the show with the award. This year, it is projected that the prize will either go to Carpenter who is currently on her Short n’ Sweet Tour, or Roan who rapidly gained popularity this past year following the release of her album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Carpenter and Roan are comparable in terms of their impact, so it will be a close call in deciding who gets the Grammy.
Album of the Year is one of the most recognized awards in the history of the Grammys. Last year, Taylor Swift took home the award for her album “Midnights,” putting her at her fourth win in this category. Once again, Swift is nominated this year, alongside Beyoncé, Roan, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Carpenter, André 3000, and Jacob Collier. It is predicted that Beyoncé will finally win this category with her album “Cowboy Carter.” Although she has never won in this category, she still stands as the artist with the most Grammys with an astounding 32 awards. The Rolling Stones, however, predict that Swift will win, putting her on a two-year winning streak for this category because of the impact of the Eras Tour.
The nominations for Song of the Year reflect the songs that gained the most popularity and prominence throughout 2024. Last year, the Song of the Year was “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, her ninth Grammy award. Eilish is nominated once again for song of the year with “Birds of a Feather” from her recent album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” The other songs up for nomination in this category are: “Die With a Smile,” “Fortnight,” “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” “Good Luck, Babe!”, “Not Like Us,” “Please Please Please,” and “Texas Hold ’Em.” These songs have had a significant cultural impact this year and will be a competitive category. However, according to The Rolling Stones, it is most likely that Roan will win for her song “Good Luck, Babe!” Not only has this song gained the hearts of its listeners, but it has also been recognized as Eilish’s favorite song of the year.
As always, there will be a lot of talent at this year’s Grammys, so be sure to tune in this February to see the winners of the nominations!
