How To Get Out Of A Rut

It's that time of year, the air is chilled, the sky is dark, and the seasonal depression comes knocking on the door. These are some things you can do to get out of the classic seasonal depression rut.

Pick Up A Book:

Expand your knowledge on a topic or spend your time enjoying a fiction book! Letting your brain know that you are doing something, like reading will allow you to feel productive and keep your brain occupied, all while letting your imagination run wild.! So don't be afraid to pick up that book that's been sitting in the corner of your room, even if you don't enjoy it, moving one step closer to getting out of your rut.

Go For A Walk:

Nature is a great way to reconnect with yourself and your morals. Stepping outside and getting a breath of fresh air can make you realize how grateful you are for the life you have been given. Even just getting out of bed to step outside proves that you can get out of your rut. The exposure from sunlight and the movement of walking releases serotonin which overall boosts your attitude and feelings for the better.

Socialize:

The people around you are here to help, so don't be afraid to reach out. You don't realize how much of a difference it makes to just talk to someone, even if it's not what you're going through, about anything to make you feel heard and to let others feel heard in a conversation. Laughing and joking around with people, or even getting a good cry out, will already make you feel ten times better than you did before.

Clean Up Your Space:

Your room reflects your mind, so change it. If it's messy then clean it up. Take it slow. Span it out over five days and write down what you're going to do each of those five days. Take as many days as you want, but each day, you will feel better. If your room is already clean, then move something around, or buy yourself something new for your room, it doesn't have to be big, but make a difference. If you simply cannot clean your room, buy something that will motivate you, like new room decor, where you'll want your room to look good for the decor.

Yes it may be a difficult time right now, and from me writing this, I understand what you're going through. Just know that there are people out there for you that truly care about who you are as a person and what you're going through. This article just highlighted a few things you can do to help pull yourself out of this rut or episode you're going through.
