The Up and Coming Business: Samara’s Slimes
Samara Guitierrez, a Notre Dame senior, made her debut at Notre Dame’s very own Diversity Showcase. Guitierrez has always had a passion for picking up side hobbies like crocheting or sewing, but something she almost always went back to, was making slime. Slime is something that many may consider a toy for small children, but for others it is simply a fun object to distract yourself with! She first brought it to school a week before the diversity showcase. All of her friends wanted to play with it until one friend in particular had an idea: what if she sold her slimes at the showcase?
Guitierrez was obviously a bit confused:How could she make so many slimes in time? Though this was on the back of her mind, she thought it would be fun. Plus it was her senior year, what was the worst that could happen? Last minute, she informed Ms. Fitz about her idea, and though it was late, Guitierrez was able to secure the spot.
The weekend before the showcase, she got to work! All of the supplies were bought and during her first day, she made about 21 slimes of various colors and textures. At first, she assumed this was enough because she did not know how many people would actually buy.
As she was telling more and more classmates, they told her that she had their support. She began to have more confidence in what she was doing and at the last minute, was able to make another batch of slimes!
The day of the event came and she was understandably nervous. She began to have doubts about selling anything and making profit, but with the help of her friends, she got rid of her cold feet and went through with the plan.At first, the sales were a bit slow, but as people began to arrive with their families, Samara slowly started selling more and more. What really gained more interest in potential buyers was seeing people playing with their slimes.
By the end of the night, she had sold out! She was beyond happy. After this, she gained more confidence in her small business and is currently starting a restock!
