ND Flag Football’s Preparation for the Coming Season

As the school year comes to an end, many are preparing to relax and wind down during the summer. ND’s flag football team, however, is an exception. After a competitive debut season, the team was left hungry for more. Though they displayed excellent team spirit and skill, they weren’t satisfied with their record. Additionally, come fall, they will have the opportunity to compete for an official league title and play at higher levels. As attention to the sport grows, competition continues to become more challenging. ND knows that if they want to be successful, they need to put in the work.

The team is one that values hard work and team effort, which is why their preparation for the fall season begins now. As the spring sports season at Notre Dame began, so did the flag football team’s spring training. Twice a week for about an hour and a half each, dedicated team members joined together to work on perfecting technique, strengthening, and conditioning, all done with the goal of becoming the strongest, most resilient team they could be. Their objective is to go into the season knowing that they have outworked every team they face.

With this goal in mind, they won’t just be training in the spring. Come summer, they will be practicing twice a week in the mornings for almost two hours each day. Utilizing the Bellarmine facilities, they will train both on the field and in the weight room. Another important philosophy the team follows is putting in the effort together, they believe it is a way to grow solidarity and trust with teammates. They believe their team can become stronger knowing not just that they put in the work, but they did it together. Fiona Rowe ‘26 shares, “It seems kind of daunting to think about spending our summer in football training but I’ve already seen improvement during the spring training and I know that our effort will help us in the next season.”

In the team’s second season, they are projected to be playing some well-known powerhouse schools, such as Archbishop Mitty and Saint Francis. Yet, they don’t feel nervous because they know their hard work will be clear in their gameplay.

Needless to say, the ND flag football team’s second season will be bigger and better than the last. No moment will be wasted as they continue to work hard across these next few months and anticipation for the fall season grows.
