Starbucks Should Feature Seasonal Drinks Year Round
If you have been to Starbucks recently, you probably know they have a huge menu, something for everyone. In the colder months their menu welcomes fall and winter-themed drinks, although they are not for everyone, each year they become increasingly popular. This becomes a problem as in the warmer months, Starbucks does not have the popular Pumpkin Spice Latte or Sugar Cookie Cold Brew. Even in the spring and summer, these drinks would be popular as they are the perfect start to the morning or a midday caffeine boost.
Taking away drinks that bring comfort to its customers, is not a good idea on Starbucks behalf, first, all it costs them is adding a pump of pumpkin or some Christmas-themed sprinkles on top, and second, the popularity of these drinks brings in a lot of revenue for the company, Second Mesure did a study of Starbucks sales to the month, which shows a huge increase in sales in August, which co-resides with the launch of the fall drinks. The study also showed a constant decrease in sales in January/ February which is when they take the fall drinks away and through the three years this study was conducted, these trends persisted. This shows it was not just a coincidence, but some Starbucks customers increased their buying habits when Starbucks has seasonal drinks and decreased their spending when they were taken away.
Some could say that if Starbucks featured drinks like the Sugar Cookie Latte or other seasonal drinks year-round, they would lose popularity because they would not be as exclusive and magical since you could only get them in the winter. However, this is untrue, because if you like a drink or a menu item from somewhere, you are going to want to buy it regardless of the season. After all,it is something that is appealing.
Not only does Starbucks have seasonal menu items, but other similar joints also have special additions to their menus throughout the year. Both these corporations and ones with similar policies, are losing interest and potential profit when they discontinue them for the majority of the year. What they should do to keep the customers happy and increase profit is make some of their most popular seasonal drinks year-round. Especially because the employees would already know how to make these drinks, and it does not entail much in the realm of additional preparation or work.
