Super Bowl Overview

The build-up of football season 2023-2024 has come to an end as the Kansas City Chiefs took the reigning title of Super Bowl 58th Champions! Achieving the back-to-back Super Bowl legacy is a very impressive thing to say if you were Patrick Mahomes or Coach Andy Ried. Despite not coming out victorious, the San Francisco 49ers made the Bay proud, by taking them back to another Super Bowl after 4 years. This matchup was a reunion between the two teams, after facing one another back in 2020. This year’s Super Bowl was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the new and improved Allegiant Stadium. The city is known for its luxuries; however, the ticket pricing this season has taken it to a whole new level. Those present at the event paid a pretty price, choosing to spend thousands of dollars to see the Kansas City Chiefs and San Franciso 49ers compete or see Usher’s Halftime performance. On Ticketmaster, the lowest price was $8,333 and the best seats you could find were priced at a whopping $47,500. Many reasons could be attributed to the price, such as the location, entertainment, or simply the teams.

This match was truly a “Cinderella Story” for the San Francisco 49ers as their quarterback, Brock Purdy, led them through an insane season. Known as Mr. Irrelevant, he was the #262 draft pick of 2022, making him the last pick of that year. However, he has proven multiple times through complex plays that he is the right person to hold the starting quarterback position. As for the Kansas City Chiefs, their quarterback needs no introduction, as he is known as the “G.O.A.T” quarterback of our generation. No matter how many times you compare his voice to Kermit the Frog, Patrick Mahomes will always come out victorious. He is a loyal player, as he stuck with the Chiefs organization ever since he got drafted in 2017. His right-hand man, Travis Kelce, has also done a lot for the team, making touchdowns left and right. The Chiefs have been under a bright spotlight ever since mid-season until now, as a certain Grammy-winning mega popstar might have something to do with it.

It’s an understatement to say how much Taylor Swift has impacted the NFL within a span of just a few months. Their viewership among women has reached its highest and the value of the Chiefs and the league itself has increased by around $330 million. Her fanbase has been an added support to the Chiefs team and Patrick Mahomes certainly isn’t complaining.

The game was a rollercoaster as both teams fought their hardest to stay in the lead. During the first half, within 4 minutes left into the 2nd quarter, the 49ers pulled something extraordinary out of their playbook, making it one of the best plays yet. Pulling a trick move, Purdy passed the ball up to Jennings to deflect the defenders on running back, Christian McCaffrey, who was on the other side of the field. With the ball in his hands, making a fast pass, Jennings threw the ball down to McCaffrey, running 30 yards toward the touchdown. The first half ended with the score being 10-3, with the 49ers in the lead. As we advanced to the second half, many fans still remained unsure who was going to take the win. The Chiefs started to make a comeback in the 3rd and 4th quarters, forcing a rare overtime. The 49ers' offense did the best they could to create distance in the score, but the farthest they got was scoring a 3-point field goal. A lot was riding on the Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes to make the winning score with the clock ticking. The 49ers' defense was tiring out, which gave way for the Chiefs to run many yards down throughout their time of possession. 6 seconds remained, and Mecole Hardman, a wide receiver for the Chiefs, stood right underneath the touchdown, as Mahomes quickly threw the ball toward him. Time slowed in the arena, as many held their breaths to see how this would unfold. Hardman caught the ball, and before you know it, the commenters have announced the game was over.

Although one fanbase may not be happy compared to the other, not everyone can win the game. Now we must say goodbye to American Football and wait for the new season to welcome back our favorite teams. With the season coming to a close, players start their off-season, either enjoying time with their families or continuing to improve their game to take their team to the next big Super Bowl.
