After the conclusion of Thanksgiving break, the Notre Dame community is buzzing in anticipation of continuing the holiday season. Christmastime is a time for fun, celebration, and spending time with loved ones, something each household does in their unique ways. From steaming hot chocolate to delicious pumpkin bread, here’s what Notre Dame students are looking forward to eating over the upcoming break!

Emalani Reyna ‘27
“Cassava Cake! It is a very moist Filipino cake made of cassava and coconut milk. It's the type of dessert that can be eaten year-round, but it's extra special during the holiday season.”

Ladia Giberson ‘26
“My favorite holiday treat is my mom's Christmas crack. I wait all year for it because she won’t make it even if I beg any other time of year. For anyone who hasn't had it, it's amazing. It saltines with melted brown sugar and butter poured over it in a pan till it's hard and then with melted chocolate poured over the pan too. Before the chocolate hardens, my family sprinkles broken peppermint bits on top. Then, once you're done, you break or crack the pieces into personal-sized pieces. Though my size is the whole Tupperware.”

Amaris Agossa ‘25
“During the holiday season, nothing feels more comforting than a mug of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and whipped cream.”

Naomi Yolonda Udofia ‘26
“Sweet Potato pie—my mom makes it every year for Thanksgiving. We even have a competition between the cousins sometimes about who can make the best sweet potato pie.”

Josephine Crawford ‘26
“I like making a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving, and I make my specialty carrot cake for other special dates such as Christmas or family birthdays.”

Izabella Richbourg ‘28
“My favorite holiday treat is hot chocolate because you can add as many toppings as you want, and it's perfect for a cold night in! I like to drink my hot chocolate with marshmallows, whipped cream, and sometimes chocolate sauce and sprinkles!”

Elaine Saum ‘28
“Some of my favorite treats to enjoy throughout the holiday are Christmas cookies. I enjoy making and sharing them and my favorite types are chocolate molasses and cherry cheesecake cookies. Still, candy cane sugar cookies are also pretty good.”

Other favorites were pumpkin bread, white chocolate truffles, candy canes, and apple cider. There is something for everyone, so revisit a familiar delight or try a new treat this celebratory season. With the break coming up, there will be plenty of time to do so.
